What is Music?

This blog will be focusing on bringing back the roots of music to the music industry. The music industry has turned its focus from appreciating true talent to how quickly can we make money off the talent. My blog is geared towards musicians of any genre or level and to anyone who truly appreciates music for what it is, a beautiful portrayal of the human mind in art form. My goal is to become a music manager and to open my own record label. This label will ideally focus solely on the artists not on how quickly I can make a dollar. Musicians, in my opinion, have such an amazing gift and with that gift they are able to reach and stimulate the minds of their audience. Together I believe we can bring back the roots of music.

  1. I am glad you want to make a blog to voice this opinion. This is a tragedy and I have done many papers on it since I've been with Full Sail. There are alternatives to bringing back art into the music/media industry but its a sacrifice. The less money involved the better but its going to be quite a challenge because advertising and getting your name out there as a musician can cost time and money and if you aren't corporate then it takes a bit longer to become noticed, however you still get to maintain your dignity and personal artistic perspective.

  2. It's nice to see your drive and determination to help bring the music entertainment industry back to it's grass roots of quality over the mighty dollar. From a broadcast perspective, it is irritating that the same songs play over and over on the radio, yet new artists aren't being discovered. That is mainly because the more those same songs play on the radio, the more money that the record producers make. The introduction of the internet certainly helped (I remember the hay days of garageband.com and myspace.com), but what are some of the steps that you would take to help new artists be discovered?

  3. Hi Ashley,

I think it is admirable that you look at music as a “beautiful portrayal of the human mind in art form.” I could not acknowledge more with you! Personally I am all about artists who take the time with their label to develop the group’s music overtime. When I notice musicians develop their music, there is no doubt the maturity levels show. The anticipation for fans and the musicians stay around longer instead of artists who throw a whole album together in a very short time.

I look forward to reading more posts about bringing back the basics!

P.S. I wish you the best of luck with your future with owning your own record label or becoming a music manager!
